Create an IIS Website

Use the IIS Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to create a new website and point the home directory to your previously installed Sitecore folder, for example c:\inetpub\wwwroot\sitecore.
The IIS MMC is normally accessed from the Control Panel » Administrative tools » Internet Services Manager when using Windows 2000 and Windows XP, or Control Panel » Administrative tools » Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager when using Windows 2003.
The Application Protection level on the Home Directory tab of the web site properties should be set to Medium (Pooled). The Application Protection level should never be set to High as it will cause excessive caching.
-
NOTE:
Do not create as a virtual folder under an existing website - Sitecore will not work properly when run in a virtual folder.
-
NOTE: (Windows XP Professional users)
The XP Professional IIS manager does not support multiple websites. Therefore, when installing on Windows XP professional, change the home directory for the default website to point to the Sitecore webroot folder.
